A home for every child
At Children’s, we believe every child deserves a safe, loving home. Children’s Community Services advances this goal through foster care and adoption services, and many other programs that support parents and families.
We are carrying on the legacy of Rev. J.P. Dysart, who founded Children’s Home Society of Wisconsin in 1889 to find homes for orphaned and neglected children. After several mergers and name changes, the organization became Children’s Service Society of Wisconsin in 1944. In 2004, it joined the Children’s family.
A Milwaukee Journal article recounted that Rev. Dysart “climbed into his buggy, gathered up the reins, shouted ‘giddap’ to old Nell and started off in quest of a home for a baby who was parentless and homeless but not quite friendless … It was one man, one baby and no money.”
