Pediatric anesthesia fellows at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin gain exposure to a full range of specialty areas, including a high-volume cardiovascular surgery program, solid organ transplantation, Level 1 trauma and burn treatment, craniofacial reconstruction, neonatal emergencies and comprehensive acute and chronic pain management.
The 35-member Medical College of Wisconsin Anesthesiology Division annually provides perioperative care at Children's Hospital to more than 24,000 patients in 17 operating rooms on two floors, several remote locations and five rooms at our nearby free-standing outpatient surgery center. The Jane B. Pettit Pain and Palliative Care Center, which also is staffed by the anesthesiologists, serves more than 350 children annually. The affiliated inpatient pain service averages a 15-patient census.
Children's Hospital anesthesiologists are experienced with diverse training backgrounds. Many have dual certification in Pediatrics and Anesthesiology; seven additionally are certified in Critical Care or Pain Management. Four anesthesiologists attend part-time in the PICU. Nine faculty share inpatient pain service coverage and four also provide chronic pain consultation services.
