Surgery US referrals
Why we measure it - Research shows that physicians and hospitals that treat a large number of patients tend to provide a higher level of care and have better outcomes for treatments and procedures.
What this means - As the reputation of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin continues to expand nationally, many families from outside of Wisconsin are seeking the expertise of our surgical team for their child's care.
About the data - The blue states highlighted on the map show where our general and thoracic surgery patients came from in 2013.
Related dimensions of care:
- We have a highly specialized Children's Transport Team available 24 hours a day to stabilize and transport sick and injured infants and children to our center. More than 1,500 transports are provided each year.
- We added inpatient beds with the hospital expansion and increased the capacity in our recovery, consultation and waiting rooms at our Surgicenter location in spring 2009.
- We offer fellowship training programs in pediatric surgery and surgical critical care, as well as provide training in pediatric surgery to general surgical residents from The Medical College of Wisconsin and postgraduate physician assistants.
Families traveling from long distances are encouraged to use our Access Center to make travel arrangements and schedule appointments. Local hotel chains on our referral list offer lodging discounts for families staying with us.
