Staying at Children's Hospital

Checking in

ID bands for patients
Upon arrival, an ID band will be placed on your child. Our staff must use that band to check your child's identity before all procedures, including giving medicine, giving blood or doing lab draws. This is an important safety check to make sure your child gets the right treatment.

ID badges must be worn at all times by family members and visitors in the hospital.
At admission, all inpatient families are asked to create a visitor list. A parent/grandparent/guardian badge will be given only to adults who are directly responsible for the patient. A visitor badge will be given to every other person who is on the visitor list.

Badges are available at any of the Welcome Centers. The "Guidelines for Visitors" section lists Welcome Center locations. Badges are also available at any nurse's station.

A new badge is needed every day. Badges must be worn at all times. Badges can be turned in at a Welcome Center or any exit.

Smoking
Children's Hospital is a smoke-free environment. Children's Hospital does not permit the use of any tobacco products, or smokeless or "spit" tobacco on our property. This includes all property owned, leased, or operated by the hospital. This includes buildings, grounds, streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and structures. Ask staff if you need more information.

Food for you child

Children's Hospital has room service for patients. Children may order any item off the menu in their room. Call between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. by dialing (414) 266-3663. There is no charge for patient room service for the patient. Your child's food order will be delivered to their room within 45 minutes. Parents may leave a message between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. to order their child's meals for the next day.

Per doctor's orders, some food items may not be allowed. If you have any questions about your child's meals, ask to see a dietitian. We do not automatically send food trays to patient rooms. However, we do check on children after each meal to make sure they have placed an order.

For information about ordering food, call the Nutrition Services Department at (414) 266-3663.

Do not give your child any food without consulting your child's nurse.
