Overview of Imaging (Radiology)

Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has one of the nation's leading radiology programs for children. The department's expertise, advanced technology and commitment to teaching and research have helped lead to dramatic advances in diagnostic imaging.

The staff uses the newest technology, giving the best diagnosis and treatment options for children. The department offers services including vascular examinations, gastrointestinal studies, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, nuclear medicine, X-ray, CT/PET scan and interventional procedures. Sedation is available for children who require it.

All images are read by pediatric or other highly specialized radiologists who are experienced in pediatric radiology. The radiology team includes:

• Pediatric radiologists.
• A pediatric fellow.
• Radiology residents.
• Physician's Assistants.
• Radiology nurses.
• Radiology technologist.
• Clinical and administrative support staff.
• A child life specialist.

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine and Computed Tomography departments have earned accreditation by the American College of Radiology. ACR accreditation is awarded to facilities that demonstrate a commitment to quality care and patient safety. Accredited facilities:

• Have voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to ensure they meet nationally accepted standards.
• Employ personnel who are well qualified.
• Use appropriate equipment.
