Children's Service Society of Wisconsin's annual report

Children's Service Society of Wisconsin relies on your kindness to be able to serve our community. There are many opportunities to give back to the community. You can donate online, volunteer for one of our events or participate on an advisory board that helps shape the direction of Children's Service Society.

Volunteering

Children's Service Society relies on our volunteers to provide necessary services to the families and children of our community.

Volunteer Respite

The Volunteer Respite program gives the parents or caregivers of special needs children a much-needed break on a regular basis. Volunteers help care for children during large respite events or individually in a child's home. Interested in volunteering? Volunteer groups always are welcome. Project Ujima

Ujima is a Ki-swahili word meaning "working together to make things right."

Project Ujima, a community project committed to helping stop the cycle of violent crimes by reducing the number of repeat victims of violence, started in 1996. It includes the collaborative efforts of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children's Service Society of Wisconsin.

Since 1996, more than 2,000 adolescents with injuries due to interpersonal violence have been treated in the Emergency Department/Trauma Center at Children's Hospital. Because violent injuries are associated with psychological trauma, poor school performance, criminal detention and repeat incidents of violence, Project Ujima establishes a network of services that assist with physical, psychological and social recovery.

Project Ujima has several volunteer opportunities available throughout the year.

• Volunteers are needed to help serve food, facilitate games and assist with arts and craft projects during our Thanksgiving, Christmas, summer picnic and back-to-school events.
• Project Ujima's summer camp serves 50 children. Volunteers help lead workshops, assist in clerical support and assist the staff in a variety of tasks.

Advisory board members

As member of Children's Service Society's Advisory Board, your role is to help Children's Service Society achieve its mission by:

• Becoming knowledgeable about the agency's clients and programs.
• Participating in activities that further the agency's goals.
• Participating in fund development activities.

Children's Service Society welcomes individuals who possess skills and experiences in planning, finance and budgeting, public relations and visibility campaigns, marketing, leadership and training.

• Milwaukee.
