Overview of Transplant Program
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is proud to have touched the lives of thousands of children and their families through our transplant programs. Children who have exhausted, or are not expected to survive, conventional treatment can thrive thanks to our programs for kidney, liver and heart.
Transplant team members are committed to providing the highest quality transplant services in a family-centered environment. Our uniquely qualified staff members work with the patient, family and referring physician to ensure optimal treatment before, during and after transplant.
The Children's Hospital Transplant Program ranks in the top 25 percent of pediatric transplant programs for volume. There has been significant growth in the total number of solid organ transplants from 2002 to 2006. In 2006, 31 transplants were performed, compared to 12 in 2002.
The most recent advancement has been providing liver transplants for children with metabolic liver disease. Children's Hospital is one of only a few centers in the country to offer transplant as a treatment option for these rare genetic disorders.
