Advanced neuroimaging

Advanced neuroimaging techniques are new imaging methods that provide physiological and functional information about the brain. It complements the structural information obtained by conventional techniques and provides valuable insight into pediatric brain function and dysfunction.

Given the adverse side effects of techniques that rely on radiation (such as CT, PET and SPECT scans) we have implemented several MRI based advanced imaging techniques at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. These techniques are noninvasive and help in assessing brain blood flow, motor localization, language laterality, white matter integrity, biochemical composition of the tissues (presence of abnormal metabolites or derangement of normal metabolites) etc.
