Kids’ handprint ceremony held at future site of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Mequon Clinic

February 25, 2016

MILWAUKEE – Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin held a kids’ handprint ceremony yesterday to mark construction progress at the future site of its Mequon Clinic. Scheduled to open in late summer 2016, the Mequon Clinic is being developed by Ryan Companies US, Inc. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin’s North Shore Pediatrics, a primary care clinic, will move into the new Mequon Clinic, along with specialty care and urgent care services currently located at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin’s Fox Point Clinic.

As part of the handprint ceremony, children and adolescents from the North Shore area who are patients of Children’s Hospital placed handprints in paint to create an art project that will be permanently displayed in the new clinic. Joining the children at the ceremony were Peggy Troy, CEO, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin; Mequon Mayor Dan Abendroth; Wisconsin State Senator Alberta Darling; Wisconsin State Rep. Jim Ott; Mark Shapiro, president and CEO, Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center; Monica Arnstein, president, Fox Point-Bayside School District PTO; and Ryan Marks, managing director, Ryan Companies US, Inc.

Pediatric services that will be provided at the Mequon Clinic include: adolescent gynecology; asthma/allergy; audiology; behavioral health; cardiology; dermatology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; headache/pain; imaging (fluoroscopy, ultrasound, echo and MRI); neurology; orthopedics; ophthalmology; sports physical therapy; development physical therapy and occupational therapy; primary care; pulmonary; sleep; speech; sports medicine; urgent care and urology. There will also be on-site lab and pharmacy services.

“Our new Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Mequon Clinic continues our commitment to bring care closer to home for Wisconsin children and families,” said Troy. “We’re hearing from North Shore area families that they are looking forward to the convenience of having primary and specialty care located under one roof with a lab and pharmacy. This co-location of services will mean better coordinated care for families, and less school and work time missed for appointments.”

Ryan Companies is developing and constructing the new 40,000-square-foot clinic on an approximately six-acre site at the southwest corner of Mequon Road and Market Street. The two-story building will be a traditional steel structure with the majority of the exterior skin made of brick, stone and fiber cement paneling. Interior spaces will feature bold, fun colors, which will be blended with durable aesthetics; a combination that is both practical and functional in pediatric medical settings.

“It’s great to celebrate this milestone of sorts with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin,” said Marks. “This type of ceremony isn’t about the bricks and mortar – it’s about the children and families who will have greater access to superior health care services.”

Ryan Companies also will provide property management services for the facility. Groth Design Group (formerly known as ScopeBridge) serves as the project’s architect-of-record. Associated Bank provided construction financing for the project.

This is the third project in varying stages of development and operation between Ryan Companies and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. In late 2014, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin opened a 30,000 square-foot clinic in Delafield, Wisconsin, and construction is well underway on Bluemound Pediatrics, an 18,000-square-foot clinic being developed in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

As the only independent health care system in the state dedicated solely to the health and well-being of kids, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin has made a commitment to bring care closer to where families live, work and play. In summer 2016, Children’s will open its Midtown Clinic in northwest Milwaukee, which will provide primary care, behavioral medicine and dental care in a neighborhood with few pediatric health care options and a large population of children. Children’s currently provides 15 specialty clinic sites, more than 20 primary care locations and three urgent care locations in southeast Wisconsin. Recognized as one of the leading pediatric health systems in the country, Children’s also provides emergency care, community health services, foster and adoption services, child and family counseling, child advocacy services and family resource centers across the state.
