Why we measure it - Research shows that surgeons and hospitals that treat a large number of patients tend to provide better care and have improved outcomes for treatments and procedures.
What this means - The Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery program of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and our regional services continues to grow, in the number and expertise of our surgeons. More patients and families are choosing our care. Given the complexity of our patients, most are seen in our clinic in Milwaukee.
About the data - This data reflects the number of outpatient visits to our Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery Clinics per year. Our New Berlin Clinic opened in 2009.
Related dimensions of care:
- To improve patient flow and case management in the Surgery Clinic, we created specialty clinics including a Burn Clinic and a multidisciplinary Hirschprung's and Imperforate Anus Clinic.
- We offer outreach clinics to reduce the number of trips many families may need to make to our Milwaukee hospital. Our surgeons travel to Neenah, Green Bay and New Berlin, Wis., to provide care closer to where our patients live.
