Communicating unexpected results
Why we measure it - Sometimes an imaging test can reveal information that is unexpected. Getting back to the doctor who ordered the test quickly is a high priority for our imaging team. Our radiologists at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin have a process in place to make sure that doctors are alerted to unexpected results within 5 minutes of having the results.
What this means - Our goal is to document and report 100 percent of unexpected results within 5 minutes of interpreting the study. However, each test is different and may take from 10 minutes to 2 hours to accurately interpret results.
About the data - The graph shows the percent of time we are able to communicate unexpected results within 5 minutes to the referring provider who ordered the test.
