Communicating unexpected results
Why we measure it - Sometimes an imaging test can reveal information that is unexpected. Getting back to the doctor who ordered the test quickly is a high priority for our imaging team. Our radiologists at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin have a process in place to make sure that referring physicians are alerted to unexpected results within 30 minutes of our doctor's interpreting the results.
What this means - Our goal is to document and report 100 percent of unexpected results within 30 minutes of interpreting the study. However, each test is different. Some tests take more time to accurately interpret results and other tests take less time.
About the data - The graph shows the percent of time we are able to communicate unexpected results within 30 minutes to the referring provider who ordered the test. We increased our compliance rate to 97 percent in 2013.
