Sickle Cell Disease Program

Children's Hospital offers comprehensive, family-centered care to children affected by sickle cell disease. We provide services beyond those available from a child's primary care doctor or clinic. The Sickle Cell Disease Program is a National Institutes of Health-funded Basic and Translational Research Program, one of only 11 sites nationwide.

The Sickle Cell Disease Program provides comprehensive care annually to roughly 400 children and adults with sickle cell disease. Inpatient and outpatient care is available at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital.

Our multidisciplinary care team works with partners in the community, including the Milwaukee Public School system, to provide outreach communication and education to the public. Our team has a national presence in the sickle cell community and does ongoing research into the causes and treatment of sickle cell disease.
