The Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Burn Program provides comprehensive care for children - from newborns through teenagers - with any level or kind of burn. These include first degree, second degree and third degree burns caused by flames and scalds (thermal), electricity, chemicals or friction.  There is no case we need to turn away.

Burn Program highlights include:

  • Part of a Level I Trauma Center just for children.
  • Innovative treatments that reduce pain and scarring and speed healing.
  • Multidisciplinary team (see below and Our Specialists) that includes every pediatric specialist a child with a burn might need.
  • Staff involved in a national research study to increase burn knowledge and improve treatment.

Each year, we care for:

  • More than 100 inpatients with serious burn injuries.
  • More than 700 follow-up patients in our outpatient burn clinic.
  • Nearly 200 children with burn injuries treated and released from our Emergency Department.

  • Physical therapists.
  • Occupational therapists.
  • Nutritionists.
  • Child life therapists.
  • Social workers.

  • Psychologists.

Other specialists also are available as needed and include:

  • Intensive care specialists.
