The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Program at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin provides family-centered, child-focused care for patients requiring pediatric rehabilitation services. Care can begin while the child is in the hospital and continue on an outpatient basis in our rehabilitation outpatient clinic.

We offer treatment for:

  • Brain injury caused by a trauma, infection or anoxia.
  • Stroke, meningitis, brain tumor.
  • Multiple trauma and burns.
  • Neuromuscular disease.
  • Spinal cord injury.
  • Orthopedic and sports injuries.
  • Brachial plexus injuries.
  • Rheumatic, respiratory and cardiac diseases.
  • Genetic and developmental disorders.

Identifying children's needs early maximizes their potential for successful rehabilitation. Staff members work with children to develop or recover skills they need in their homes, schools and communities.

Family education and family involvement are important parts of the Pediatric Rehabilitation Program. Networking, coping and problem-solving strategies are offered through ongoing support for families.

We serve patients 18 years old or younger who have:

  • A referral from a parent, physician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, insurer, social worker, care continuum consultant, discharge planner or case manager.
  • A functional impairment that can improve with treatment.
  • Functional limitations that are recent or due to the progression of a disease.
