Pre-admission tours
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin offers pre-admission tours of the hospital in Milwaukee.
Going on a tour is an easy way to prepare kids for having surgery or staying in the hospital. Children who go on these tours are less likely to feel anxious. Research shows that children who are prepared are better able to understand their experiences.

Child Life specialists prepare many children for surgery using pictures and medical equipment. During the tour, children get a package with activity sheets, an anesthesia mask and surgical hat. They also can try out a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff. Questions are welcome.
Tours are offered for children between the ages of 3 through 18. Family members are welcome.
- Tours for 3- to 10-year-olds are held weekly. Photos and hands-on play with medical equipment help kids learn about their surgeries.
- The Teen Tour is offered the first Thursday of the month for youth 11 years and older. A walking tour helps teens learn about surgery.
Tours for children younger than 3 may be scheduled upon request.
Families should take a tour one week before coming to the hospital.
