Neurosurgery (414) 266-6435
Overview
Pediatric Neurosurgery provides high-quality, comprehensive care for children with neurological diseases, injuries and disorders of the brain, nerves and spinal cord. We specialize in the management and treatment of neurological conditions that only affect children, from newborns to adolescents.
When people think about neurosurgery, they usually think of brain tumors. However, brain tumors are just a small part of the specialty services Pediatric Neurosurgery provides at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. In recent years, the field of pediatric neurosurgery has grown in expertise, diagnosis and treatment. Today, we treat conditions that were not even recognized years ago. A few of the more common diagnoses we treat are spina bifida, craniofacial malformations, vascular problems and spasticity.
Specialty Highlights
-
Bruce Kaufman, MD, and Sean Lew, MD, have formal fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery and devote their entire practices to children.
-
We use a three-tiered approach focusing first and foremost on excellence in clinical care. Building a strong group of general neurosurgery residents, pediatricians in training and allied health professionals that are well-founded in pediatric neurosurgery is a secondary goal. The third and final emphasis is placed on research.
-
Our pediatric neurosurgeons are the only active providers of this specialty in the area, and they have privileges at all large regional neonatal intensive care units.
-
We have developed a Brain Tumor Consulting Group, which joins oncology, radiation therapy, neurosurgery and neurology, and consults with endocrinology, neuroradiology and neuropathology to review cases and determine the best available treatment.
-
Bruce Kaufman, MD, and Sean Lew, MD, are listed in the 2007-2008 Best Doctors in America ® database. The physicians on this list represent the top 3 to 5 percent of the nation's practicing board-certified physicians.
-
