Mission Statement The mission of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Kenosha Child Advocacy Center is to alleviate secondary trauma to children who have been victims of maltreatment, whether through physical or sexual abuse or neglect. The center provides a multidisciplinary coordinated response by various community agencies, including law enforcement, social services, the District Attorney and medical community.
Abuse/Neglect Assessment At the Child Advocacy Center, we provide comprehensive assessment of children suspected to be victims of abuse or neglect. These services are provided in a child-focused atmosphere.
Forensic medical assessments are performed by a nurse practitioner specially trained in the area of abuse and neglect. The non-invasive exam is focused on the type of abuse suspected. Initial treatment may be provided and follow-up medical care is arranged as necessary.
Forensic interviews are performed by a master's-prepared social worker specially trained in the area of abuse and child interviewing techniques. The interviews are videotaped to minimize the trauma that can be caused when children need to repeat their stories numerous times.
Foster Care Health Program The Child Advocacy Center medically assesses and evaluates all children placed in out-of-home care. The main purpose of this exam is to document the child's health status at the time of placement and refer the child to an ongoing provider. At the visit, the child will receive a complete physical examination. Hearing and vision screening and laboratory testing may be done. We will treat any acute health problems and make necessary referrals to community resources, mental health services and school programs.
