Clinic services include:

  • Dressing changes.
  • Checking the burn for infection and healing.
  • Scar management.
  • Returning function to the affected body part.

What happens at a visit?
Clinic appointments can last up to one hour, since each specialist involved in the child's care meets with the patient. This helps the team work together to plan the child's care and saves families from having to schedule separate appointments.

Who will I see?
Pediatric surgeons coordinate the child's care and may refer to other pediatric specialists depending on the child's needs. These can include:

  • Plastic surgeon consultants may perform reconstructive or cosmetic surgery if needed.
  • Child Life specialists can help children and their families prepare for treatments by talking through their fears and what they can expect.
  • Social workers can help families with their finances and with finding community resources such as transportation.
  • Nutritionists can help create a healthy diet plan full of protein and calories to help children recover faster. Good nutrition helps children's burns heal.
  • Physical and occupational therapists can help rehabilitate children with burn injuries and provide scar management.
  • Psychologists can help children deal with the trauma of the incident and psychological stresses of the child and family.
