Measles updates for providersThe City of Milwaukee Health Department confirmed measles in the community. Measles is an extremely serious and highly contagious viral disease. It spreads through airborne droplets person to person. Health care professionals should be alert for the appearance of additional measles cases in the coming weeks. Report all suspect cases to the City of Milwaukee Health Department.
As outbreaks of measles continue abroad, the importation of measles cases in travelers, refugees and immigrants continues to be an issue. Physicians should consider measles in persons with clinically compatible illness and a recent international travel history or recent contact with international travelers. Immunization: Measles vaccine is highly effective in preventing disease. It's not too late to immunize! Primary care offices may see an increase in immunization appointments or requests to verify immunization records.
