About the data - This graph shows all of the surgeries done by our pediatric urologists from 2007 to 2010 at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and at the Surgicenter of Greater Milwaukee.

What we're doing to provide the best care:
- Surgeries are done either at Children's Hospital or the Surgicenter of Greater Milwaukee. The location depends on the patient's health status and the parents' preference. In either facility, patients are cared for by the same pediatric surgeon and board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist.
- All urologists and anesthesiologists at Children's Hospital are board eligible or qualified in pediatric urology and pediatric anesthesiology.
- Our large number of procedures provides experience in seeing children with a variety of conditions. Some conditions are very common. Others are quite rare and occur in less than one per 200 children making cases that are common for us, uncommon outside of the pediatric hospital setting.
- Our doctors review all planned surgeries as a group each week.
- The ongoing training of fellows and residents ensures a high level of attention in an academic environment.
- A pediatric urology nurse practitioner works with families to help them feel prepared to go home. Teaching families and seeing them for follow-up care is an important part of each child's care.
Patients and families:
- Taking a preoperative tour helps patients and families feel more prepared for procedures and a hospital stay.
- It is very important to follow the exact directions for when to stop eating and drinking before surgery.
Referring physicians:
- Referring physicians can access our specialists for consultation or transport 24 hours a day. Call our physician referral line at (800) 266-0366.
- Health care providers from outside of our southeastern Wisconsin service area are encouraged to use our web-based
e-Consult service. This service is available for non-urgent patient cases only and gives providers access to our specialists to review patient cases, obtain medical advice or second opinions, and receive care recommendations for rare symptoms and illnesses.
