Transport Team Outreach and Educational Programs
Emergencies involving children comprise only a small percentage of ambulance runs or emergency room visits, affording limited opportunities for to develop and pediatric skills. Healthcare professionals typically identify that the patients who generate the greatest level of anxiety for them are children. This emphasizes the need for ongoing education to ensure clinical practice is consistent with current pediatric practice guidelines. The CHW Transport Team is committed to raising the level of pediatric care available in the hospital and pre-hospital setting. The Transport Team is available for pediatric educational offerings on request, please submit requests to transportleaders@chw.org. (link to education request form) The following classes and educational topics are available; we request 4-6 week notification prior to request: S.T.A.B.L.E. Program: S.T.A.B.L.E. is the most widely distributed and implemented neonatal education program to focus exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of sick infants. Based on a mnemonic to optimize learning, retention and recall of information, S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, and Emotional support. A seventh module, Quality Improvement stresses the professional responsibility of improving and evaluating care provided to sick infants. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) information and other Neonatal Resuscitation Program and life support information. http://www.aap.org/nrp/nrpmain.html For information regarding PALS Registration please contact Karen Bauer in Educational Services at (414) 266-2289 (insert link to Ed Services website) Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP): This class was developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics with the prehospital care provider as the target audience. PEPP is an exciting curriculum designed specifically to teach prehospital professionals how to better assess and manage ill or injured children. Pediatric Assessment: Children are not "small adults". There are a number of significant anatomic and physiological differences between children and adults which impact on assessment and management. This is a 1-2 hour class offered by a CHW Transport Team member to provide scenario based education within an airway, breathing and circulation framework.
Pediatric shock and assessment cards are also available upon request. These cards are durable pocket reference cards which provide stabilization guidelines of the pediatric patient.
