Sweating is a normal function that helps the body stay cool. Hyperhidrosis is a medical problem involving excessive sweating that can be harmful to a child's social and physical well-being.

Common areas affected are the underarms, face, hands and feet. Excessive sweating can be the main medical problem, or it can be the result of a different medical problem or medication.

Joree Ruiz, PA-C, treats a wide range of dermatologic conditions and specializes in hyperhidrosis. She offers medical solutions as well as everyday strategies for coping with excessive sweating.

Treatment options
There are many treatments for hyperhidrosis, from antiperspirants to extensive surgeries. Some hyperhidrosis treatments may include:

  • Antiperspirants directly applied to the skin.
  • Oral medications.
  • Iontophoresis.
  • Botox.

Choosing the correct treatment option depends on many factors that you and a doctor will discuss together.
