Operating policies
Fee-based services
The core is designed to provide efficient nucleic acid extraction services for a fee that matches our costs without profit. The core's mission is to facilitate investigator-initiated research at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, the Medical College of Wisconsin and affiliated institutions. Outside investigators also may be eligible for core access at discretion of the directors. Invoices are generated monthly and payment is expected within 30 days. All users are individually invoiced.
Turnaround time
Processed specimens will be processed and DNA samples will be ready for pick up within one week of the drop-off date. Access to equipment is on a first come, first served basis. We encourage people to plan ahead for completion of work to ensure equipment availability. If more than 25 samples will be dropped off at one time or if less than a one-week turnaround time is requested, contact the core staff before delivery for arrangements.
Sample drop off and pick up
Specimen drop off and DNA sample pick up is coordinated through the Pediatric Translational Research Unit. The investigator will be notified once DNA samples are ready for pick up. Extracted samples will not be stored for long-term use and are expected to be picked up within two weeks.
Security
Access to the core is controlled by card reader access and computer logon.
