Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in the Fox Valley
Flu updates for providers

Updated November 15, 2010

General visitor screening

It is important to keep visitors who have flu symptoms from entering our hospital and clinics. If visitors have a runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, cough or fever greater than 100 degrees, they should alert a Children's Hospital representative before entering. The same restrictions apply to staff members.

All parents and guardians – regardless of symptoms – may visit their child in the hospital, but they must wear masks if they have any flu symptoms.

Inpatient visitors

Visiting hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Learn more about our inpatient visitor policy.

The Pediatric Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will have restricted visitor access.

  • Two parents, regardless of age, will be allowed to visit their children anytime.
  • Only four additional adult guests (18 years and older) who are on the "accepted visitor list" will be allowed in the inpatient units. These four guests cannot be changed during the restriction period.
  • For the NICU only, healthy siblings of the patient that are age 12 or older will be allowed to visit for 30 minutes per day.
  • For the Pediatric unit, healthy siblings (of any age) are allowed but only for 30 minutes per day unless other arrangements are made with nursing staff.
  • Visitors will be screened for signs of illness upon arrival. No one with flu symptoms, including fever higher than 100 degrees F, cough, runny nose, nasal congestion and sore throat, will be allowed to visit. Screening is the key to prevention.
  • Parents with these symptoms will be required to wear a mask.

As always, our goal is to provide the best care to our patients, families and staff.

Planning

Children's Hospital has planned for the resurgence of H1N1 influenza. An interdisciplinary team has identified many issues and needs related to this challenge.
