Resources for Families
The medical care of each patient is the primary concern of Children's Hospital staff members. But there is much more to the overall care of patients and their families.
The resources below are available to all patients and families at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
Liver Specific Resources are also available.
Family Accommodations Program
For families traveling to Children's Hospital from outside the Milwaukee area, we have developed a program that helps make travel arrangements.
The program provides:
- Dedicated hospital staff to help families make airline, car rental and lodging arrangements.
- Special rates at area hotels.
- Discounted car rental rates.
Overnight accommodations at the Ronald McDonald House, located across the street from the hospital, are available for families of children receiving inpatient or outpatient treatment, as space allows.
Kohl's Child Life Program
Child Life specialists are an important part of the health care team. Their observations, interactions and assessments contribute to the development of the total patient care plan. Members of the Kohl's Child Life Program are certified professionals with college degrees in child life, therapeutic recreation or related fields.
Child Life specialists provide:
- Family support.
- Preadmission tours.
- Special events.
- Medical play.
- Procedural support.
The Daniel M. Soref Family Resource Center
The Daniel M. Soref Family Resource Center is a place for information, as well as a place for parents and family members to take a break during their time at Children's Hospital. The center offers parent-to-parent support, referrals and help connecting to community resources.
Computers and periodicals allow families to stay connected to the world outside the hospital. Staff members are trained to help children, young adults and their families find answers to questions about local resources, support groups, funding options and more.
