The Project Ujima Legacy

In 1994, a young man was shot in the chest and killed. He was 16 years old.

In 1988, when he was 9 years old, he was treated in the emergency department for an "accidental" injury.

In 1990, now 11, he visited the emergency department and was treated for multiple bruises and cuts resulting from an assault.

At 13 years old, in 1992, we treated him for multiple stab wounds.

Again in early in 1994, we treated this now 15 year old for a gun shot wound in the leg.

By the end of that same year, he was dead.

While each time we expertly treated his physical wounds, not once did we treat the disease - violence. Although he and his family may never know, this young man's legacy is

Project UJIMA: Working together to make things right.
