Why Choose the Sleep Center at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin?
Children have different needs
For more than 100 years, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has been dedicated solely to helping kids. We understand that children are not little adults. Children have the same broad range of sleep disorders as adults – including sleep apnea, insomnia, parasomnias, delayed sleep phase disorder, narcolepsy and restless leg syndrome – but symptoms, testing and treatment may differ. Our Sleep Center staff members have dedicated their careers to working with kids. They are experts at diagnosing and treating pediatric sleep disorders.
Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
The Sleep Center at Children's Hospital is one of about 20 pediatric sleep centers in the nation accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. This means that the center offers the highest quality of patient care. Most children first visit the Pediatric Sleep Disorders Clinic for evaluation. Some children need only medical or behavioral intervention. Other kids may need further evaluation in the sleep lab to help us better understand their symptoms.
Sleep centers and labs that earn accreditation have met or surpassed rigorous, evidence-based requirements focusing on:
- Patient care.
- Staff qualifications and proficiency.
- Quality assurance and safety.
- Facilities and equipment.
Well-qualified staff
Our Sleep Center staff includes:
- Pediatric-trained physicians who are either board-certified or board-eligible in sleep medicine.
- Child psychologists with expertise in evaluation and care of children with behavioral sleep disorders.
- Pediatric-trained sleep technologists, most of whom are registered respiratory therapists.
- A pediatric nurse practitioner who is specially trained to work with pediatric sleep disorders.
World-class care
Children's Hospital is recognized as one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the United States, rated No. 3 by Parents magazine. In addition, it was named one of America's Best Children's Hospitals by U.S.News & World Report. The hospital has been redesignated a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a national honor recognizing nursing excellence only 2 percent of hospitals in the world achieve. Family-centered care
Children's Hospital practices family-centered care. Our staff understands nobody knows your child better than you do. We listen carefully to families and parents are actively involved in planning their childÕs care. To reduce the stress a child may feel in spending the night away from home, parents stay overnight with their child during sleep studies. Sleep Center staff provide prompt follow-up with your child's doctor.
