Types of volunteers we need
There are a variety of roles volunteers fill at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. We will work with you to match your interests and availability with our most urgent needs. Bilingual. Spanish-speaking and other foreign language- speaking volunteers are a critical need to assist our patient families. Certified animal-assisted therapy handlers. We will be accepting new teams starting in summer. View the certification requirements here. Daytime. Our greatest need during the daytime shifts is Monday through Friday before 6 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity for retirees. Evening and weekends. Visitations increase during evening and weekend hours. Therefore the demand for evening and weekend volunteers is not as great as weekday shifts. Clerical and special projects. Assist with special projects or various office needs in many areas throughout the health system. Infant care. Assist infants and their families on the inpatient units. Due to the high level of care needed for patients in our neonatal intensive care unit, we cannot accommodate volunteers in this area. Peer volunteers. Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 19 years old assist patients age 12 and older with teen nights, homework, movie nights and games. Reach Out & Read. Help our patients grow through reading. Learn more at www.reachoutandread.org or contact the Reach Out & Read program coordinator at (414) 456-5749.
