Apply for a grant for the Wisconsin Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Project

Introduction

As part of a joint funding project, the Child Abuse Prevention Fund and the Wisconsin Children's Trust Fund have come together to support two local communities in the development of very specific prevention programming targeted to preventing children from being sexually abused.

The Wisconsin Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Project (WCSAPP) will prevent child sexual abuse by helping adults and communities take action to protect children.  The four main components of the project are:  1)  Awareness, 2) Education, 3) Prevention and Action, and 4) Advocacy.

Funding priorities

  • The WCSAPP grant will provide two grants of up to $40,000 to pilot a program of child sexual abuse prevention in the Fox Cities and Milwaukee areas.
  • The WCSAPP project pilot communities must demonstrate community collaboration.  This will include the formation of a local steering committee that engages partners from a cross section of the community.  At least three memorandums of understanding from community partners should be included and they should very clearly and concretely describe what the collaborative agencies bring to the project, can contribute to the project and/or service that may be purchased from the project.
  • Pilot communities are expected to work toward the WCSAPP's goals of:  1) Raising awareness of adult and community responsibility for child sexual abuse prevention, 2)  Increasing the knowledge and understanding of healthy sexual development in children and families, 3)  Educating adults and communities about high risk situations and warning signs exhibited by potential abusers, 4)  Building skills and resources in adults to respond appropriately when abuse is suspected, 5)  Effecting public policy change, and 6) Empowering youth and child serving agencies to improve their internal policy, procedures and trainings related to keeping kids safe from sexual harm.
  • Pilot communities will be expected to utilize the program "Stewards of Children" by Darkness to Light to train various audiences in the community on how they can keep children from sexual harm.

Eligibility requirements

  • WCSAPP grants will be awarded in the Fox Cities and Milwaukee areas only.
  • Grants are NOT made for endowment purposes or capital requests. General operating support is granted only under very unusual circumstances.
  • Applicants must be a tax-exempt organization with an IRS 501 (c) (3) designation.
  • Projects must clearly relate to the goals of the Wisconsin Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Project.
  • Grants are awarded for one program year of activity.
  • The Child Abuse Prevention Fund is an outcome-driven grant maker, therefore applicants must submit detail about their program's intended outcomes and a well thought out evaluation plan.

Grantee expectations

The Child Abuse Prevention Fund's focus is on outcomes or results for families, children and communities. Agencies that receive funding meet criteria for effectiveness and accountability. Each organization funded is expected to demonstrate positive outcomes through six-month and annual progress reports. The Director of the Wisconsin Child Sexual Abuse Prevention project will play a role in helping organizations demonstrate positive outcomes. The project Director will also perform site visits to funded organizations.  Grantees will be expected to participate in project sponsored trainings, meetings and networking opportunities as well as data collection and evaluation activities.

Qualifications and schedule

To qualify for Child Abuse Prevention Fund grant support, agencies must have an IRS 501 (c) (3) designation and projects must clearly relate to the WCSAPP. Awards can be made to joint or collaborative efforts of non-profit and government agencies; however, the government agency may NOT act as the primary fiscal or lead agent. Organizations that have received prior support from the Child Abuse Prevention Fund may re-apply.

To be eligible for the 2009 Wisconsin Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Project, qualified organizations must submit a one-page letter of intent describing the proposed project as described on the attached letter of intent guidelines. Letters of intent must be received by 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009. Failure to meet this deadline will mean no further review of the proposed request in this grant cycle. Letters of intent may not be faxed. Letters post-marked on the due date will not be accepted.

We recommend the following ways to get your letter of intent here by deadline: Federal Express, DHL Delivery, or UPS. We cannot guarantee receipt of your proposal by the deadline if you use Priority Express, or Certified Mail through the United States Postal Service because packages do not have tracking numbers. You may hand deliver your letter of intent if you wish. If you do so, please use the hand delivery address.

Download the Letter of Intent guidelines and program logic model.
