Serving Teens at Risk
The STAR program helps teens in crisis or teen run aways in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Services offered to teens and their parents include:
- Assessment. Free assessment of the problems and issues being faced.
- Crisis hotline. A 24-hour, confidential crisis hotline for teens, parents or other concerned individuals. Counselors staff the crisis hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Individual and family counseling. Counselors are available for up to
eight free intensive individual and/or family counseling sessions.
- Therapy referrals. If additional therapy is needed, referrals for licensed therapists trained in child and family issues are available. Therapy services are provided on a sliding fee scale. Many forms of insurance are accepted.
- Foster or shelter care. Short-term (up to two weeks) foster and/or shelter care for youth in crisis.
- Community outreach. STAR staff
members are available to provide presentations to schools, churches, youth, parents and other interested parties. Staff members also spend time at local teen gathering places to provide support and referrals to services in the community.
