Histology Core Services and Fees

Training

Upon request, training can be provided for the following techniques:

  • Cryostat sectioning (frozen sectioning).
  • General histology (grossing, processing, embedding, cutting, routine and special staining).
  • Immunohistochemistry.

Tissue dissection and orientation for embedding

Investigators must remove tissue from animals. If you take out whole organs or large pieces of tissue, they must be further grossed to fit into our processing cassettes. We can provide this service for you or we can train your technicians to perform this task.

 

Immunohistochemistry

Includes routine stains with well-characterized antibodies and optimization of use of well-characterized antibodies.

Special stains

  • Group I special stains
    Routinely offered: PAS, Oil Red O
    Available upon request: Mucicarmine, Cresyl Violet, Acid Fast Bacilli (AFB), Congo Red, VonKossa, Prussion Blue Iron, others
  • Group II special stains
    Routinely offered: Masson Trichrome, McLetchie's Trichrome
    Available upon request: Gram, Elastic, Alcian Blue pH 2.5, Colloidal Iron, Movat's Pentachrome, others.
  • Group III special stains
    Available upon request: GMS, Reticulin, Jones, Bielchowshy, Fontana Masson, others.
