Research opportunity for adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease and their families

Purpose of study:

To understand how families of children and teens with inflammatory bowel disease work together to manage IBD, as well as to learn if the way in which families work together to manage IBD relates to teen, parent and family adjustment in different areas, including the teen's adherence to their treatment regimen.

Who is eligible to participate?

Children and adolescents between 11 and 18 years of age with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis) and their parent(s) are eligible to participate if they read and understand English and are not diagnosed with another chronic health condition.

What is involved in participation?

All participating families will be involved in a single visit in which they will complete a packet of questionnaires. This visit will last approximately 60 minutes, and families will have the option of completing questionnaires via mail. A subset of families also will participate in an audio taped discussion group about managing the teen's IBD.

Families will be reimbursed for participation.

How can I obtain more information?
To learn more about the research study, please contact Tara Raboin, BA, the study research coordinator in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at (414) 337-7026.
