1. Should I bring my insurance card with me?
Yes, the information on your insurance card is needed for Children's Hospital to file a claim with your insurance company. An accurate claim is in all of our interests.

2. Will you bill my insurance for me?
Yes, as a courtesy and because it is the industry practice, we will bill most U.S. insurance carriers. We will not bill a foreign insurance company.
We will not bill a third party liability company such as an automobile insurance company.

3. Does my child need a referral to a specialist at a Children's Hospital clinic?
Many insurance plans require patients to obtain authorization to see a specialist. Your primary care physician can start the authorization process. It is ultimately your responsibility to obtain authorization to see a specialist at Children's Hospital.

Co-payments will be collected when you check in. Payments can be made with cash, check, money order, MasterCard or VISA.

6. I am covered under a PPO, EPO or an HMO plan. How can I find out if Children's Hospital is a participating provider?
There are many different PPO, EPO and HMO plans. It always is best to ask your insurance carrier directly if Children's Hospital is a participating provider.

7. Why did I receive two bills, one from Children's Hospital and another from The Medical College of Wisconsin?
If your child was seen in an outpatient clinic at Children's Hospital, you will receive two bills. Children's Hospital bills for clinic staff, supplies, medical records, etc. The Medical College of Wisconsin bills for physician services.

8. I thought I brought my child to a doctor's office and I should only be responsible for my office visit co-payment. Why am I being billed so much by Children's Hospital?
It is important to understand that your child was not seen in a doctor's office. Your child was seen in a hospital outpatient clinic. Children's Hospital is required to bill in this manner. Many insurance carriers will apply hospital outpatient charges to deductible and co-insurance. Please carefully review your insurance policy.

9. What do I do if I disagree with how much my insurance company has paid on my bill?
You should contact your insurance company first and ask for a complete explanation of how your claim was paid. Your insurance company will need your policy number, the patient's name and date of birth, the provider's name, and the date of service.
