The Transplant Team 

A dedicated team of experienced professionals who specialize in different aspects of the transplantation process work with the patient, family and referring physician to provide comprehensive, consistent and compassionate care. The level of dedication and care rendered by our staff is one of the most recognized assets of our transplant programs.

The multispecialty pediatric transplant programs at Children's Hospital are driven by the desire to keep children healthy and provide the highest quality of life possible. The inception, growth and success of the transplant programs have been made possible by decades of experience and a track record for standard-setting care.

Children's Hospital offers the following transplant programs:

• Pediatric Liver Transplant Program.
• Pediatric Heart Transplant Program.
• Pediatric Kidney Transplant Program.
• Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.

Transplant Coordinators

The program and entire transplant process is expertly coordinated by a dedicated transplant coordinator. These nurses work tirelessly to ensure patients and families have everything they need.

The rest of the team is defined by the clinical needs of the patient and often will include:

• Surgical experts specializing in Cardiothoracic, Renal, Gastrointestinal and Liver Surgery
• Transplant Medicine specialists such as Nephrologists, Cardiologists, Pulmonologists, Gastroenterologists and Heptologists.
• Pediatric specialists and subspecialists, such as Infectious Disease specialists, Immunologists, Endocrinologists and others depending on the needs of the transplant patient.
• Other ancillary services specializing in transplant patients, including staff nurses, Pharmacists, Developmental psychologists, Social workers, Dietitians, Child Life specialists and Financial Services consultants.

Because of their special training and extensive experience, surgeons at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin are uniquely qualified to care for infants, children and teenagers with problems requiring surgery, as well as young adults with end stage organ failure. They use their special knowledge and skill to treat a wide range of surgical conditions - from simple to complex, unusual or life-threatening.

Though an operating room can look intimidating, the highly-skilled and compassionate people who work at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin create a caring, trusting environment for children and families.

Pediatric anesthesiologists are experts in safely putting and keeping children to sleep. They monitor the child throughout the operation, give medication to keep vital signs normal and control pain.

Many Children's Hospital physicians are faculty members at the Medical College, teaching tomorrow's pediatricians and pediatric specialists. This close relationship allows our patients access to cutting-edge research and treatment options.

The BloodCenter of Wisconsin, an internationally known research facility for blood-related studies, provides cross matching and histocompatibility tissue typing. On site - without having to go to another facility or another city – organs are matched from the national list according to UNOS guidelines, ABO compatibility and size.
