Marc Gorelick, MD, MSCE
Marc Gorelick, MD, MSCE, received a BA in history at Princeton University, and was awarded his medical degree from Duke University in 1987. He trained as a pediatric intern, resident and chief resident (1987-1991) at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC, and then did a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. During his fellowship, he earned a master's of science in Clincal Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, after which he became an assistant professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at the same institution. In 1998, he joined the faculty of the Jefferson College of Medicine, with his clinical practice and research base at the duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, De. In 2000, he accepted the position of Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, with the rank of associate professor, and was named the Jon E. Vice Chair and Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. In 2005, he was promoted to full professor in the Department of Population Health.
Gorelick's research interests include evaluation of outcomes of emergency care, diagnostic test evaluation, development of clinical decision rules for acute care and risk-adjustment tools for measuring outcomes and quality of care. He has 54 peer-reviewed publications, as well as numerous textbook chapters in various aspects of pediatric emergency care. He has received research grant funding from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Emergency Medicine Foundation and the Nemours Foundation.
In addition to his roles at the Medical College and Children's Research Institute, Gorelick has leadership positions in several national organizations. He is a member of the Steering Committee and Chair of the Grants and Publications Subcommittee of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network, the only federally-funded multicenter network devoted to research on the care of acutely ill and injured children. He also is a member of the American Sub-Board of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the Executive Committee of the Section of Emergency Medicine of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Care. |
