Hospitalist Program
When your child requires hospitalization, your child's primary care physician may request that a specially trained physician, called a hospitalist, oversees your child's care during his or her stay in the hospital.
With the hospitalist, your child will have the benefit of being seen by a doctor who focuses entirely on the care of children who are sick enough to be in the hospital. Our hospitalists realize your primary physician's involvement in your child's care is important to you. So, our hospitalists take extra measures to stay in touch with your child's primary doctor throughout the hospitalization.
Focusing on Hospitalized Children
The hospitalists at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley care for children in the Pediatric Unit. They also attend deliveries and care for newborns at Theda Clark Medical Center. In addition, they provide pediatric consultations in the Theda Clark Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.
Our hospitalists are board certified in Pediatrics. They have special training and expertise that allows them to provide hospitalized infants, children and teenagers with the very best care.
Our hospitalists' time is devoted to patients who are in the hospital. When your child returns home, your primary care doctor will resume caring for your child.
Providing Easy Access
Our hospitalists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A hospitalist will see your child every day or as needed throughout the hospitalization. They are easily accessible to answer your questions and discuss your child's care. Because our hospitalists are on-site, they can respond immediately to any emergencies that may arise.
Our hospitalists are very familiar with the patient care systems in place at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, Theda Clark Medical Center, and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. This allows them to seamlessly coordinate any other services your child may require during his or her hospital stay. They also work closely with primary care physicians and health care providers at other hospitals in the area.
Connecting with Pediatric Specialists
Because of their experience with complex illnesses and injuries, our hospitalists know when to consult with other specialists, such as a pediatric cardiologist. They have developed strong relationships with specialty physicians in the Fox Valley area as well as world-renowned pediatric experts from Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. If your child should need the care of another specialty physician, our hospitalists are ready to make those critical connections at a moment's notice.
Partnering With Your Primary Doctor
Our hospitalists and your child's primary care physician work together closely. When your child is admitted, your primary doctor may provide the hospitalist with information about your child's health history. Your primary care doctor is kept informed about your child's progress during the hospital stay.
Our physicians make the extra effort to keep your child's primary doctor up-to-date. They will prepare detailed reports and treatment plans, and send this important information to your primary doctor. Our hospitalists' goal is to provide your doctor with all the information he or she will need to care for your child after discharge from the hospital.
As an added benefit, because our hospitalists care for children in the hospital, your child's primary doctor can be more available to your family in his or her office.
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley accepts all types of health care plans, including traditional health insurance, HMOs, PPOs and state and federal programs.
