The Fetal Concerns Program consists of a group of caring professionals who are here to help you every step of the way as you navigate the medical maze of information and specialists required to diagnose and care for you and your baby.
A specially trained nurse coordinator arranges services and provides ongoing counseling and information, both prior to and immediately after the birth. Having a familiar face to turn to during this potentially traumatic time is intended to ease the process of adjustment for both the mother and family.
The Fetal Concerns Program also is here to assist you in planning care for you and your baby if your baby has a diagnosis that is known to be fatal or for which there is no known treatment or cure. The term used for this type of care is palliative care. The goal of palliative care is to provide comfort and spiritual, emotional, physical and psychological support for the baby and the family. The Fetal Concerns Program can set up a discussion with the palliative care team at CHW, who will help develop a care plan that incorporates your wishes for care of your baby. This care plan can be given to the obstetrician and the hospital labor and delivery staff where you will be delivering your baby.
Should you decide to deliver at Froedtert Hospital, the Fetal Concerns Program will arrange a tour of the Birth Center before delivery. Froedtert's Birth Center is located inside Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. This allows immediate access to all of the specialists that your baby may need. It also eliminates the need to transfer your baby to a different hospital and allows you to stay in the same facility as your baby. Take a virtual tour of the Birth Center.
The Fetal Concerns Program can also assist with a pregnancy that is complicated by a maternal issue. Some maternal diagnoses can have an impact on the health of the fetus and require specialized care to balance the health of both mother and child.
The Fetal Concerns Program wants to help you have the best pregnancy experience possible.
