Overview of NEW Kids™ Program
The Nutrition, Exercise and Weight Management (NEW) Kids™ Program at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is geared toward a holistic treatment of pediatric overweight. It coordinates efforts of nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, dietitians, exercise physiologists, physical therapists and physicians. The NEW Kids Clinic focuses on children who are overweight and have medical problems related to overweight.
What is overweight? According to the Center for Disease Control, overweight and at risk of overweight are the terms preferred to refer to children who have excess body weight. One in five children in the Metropolitan Milwaukee area is considered overweight.
Medical problems associated with overweight:
If your child has medical problems associated with overweight and you want to find out more about the NEW Kids Program at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin see your doctor for evaluation and referral.
Because exercise is a key component of the NEW Kids Program, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has partnered with the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee to provide a community-based opportunity for exercise and lifestyle change.
If your child is overweight but does not have medical problems associated with overweight, he or she may be appropriate for the NEW Kids at the Y program. Visit the YMCA Metropolitan Milwaukee Web site for more information about the NEW Kids at the Y program.
