Pediatric pain management differs from adult pain management. Children experiencing pain require assessment and treatment by pediatric pain specialists. The Pain Management Program at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has developed a program to meet the needs of infants, children, adolescents and their families who are experiencing pain problems.

Children with chronic or long-standing pain are seen as outpatients in the Jane B. Pettit Pain and Palliative Care Center. Clinic staff work together to help children with painful illnesses or conditions find answers where at first there appeared to be none. Pain cannot always be eliminated, but oftentimes can be reduced to tolerable levels, greatly enhancing quality of life.

We offer diagnosis and treatment for:

Types of treatments can include:

  • Multimodal analgesic medication prescription and management.
  • Individual and family therapy.
  • School plan consultation.
  • Relaxation/meditation techniques.
  • Biofeedback.
  • Acupuncture.
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS).
  • Occupational and Physical Therapy.
  • Case management.
