Neonatal Developmental Follow-up Program

See Also...
The Neonatal Developmental Follow-up Program provides follow-up care for babies who need special care after birth, are at risk for developmental delays or have ongoing medical problems. This program is very important during the child's first three years - the time when he or she is growing rapidly and learning a lot of new skills. Parents or physicians can refer a baby to the program.

Initial visit
Babies should have their first follow-up visit at 3 months of age (from their due date). This visit takes place in the Children's Hospital Child Development Center, located in the Curative Care Network building across the parking lot from Children's Hospital.

Other visits
Other follow-up visits will be scheduled every six to 12 months until the child is 3 years old. These visits take place at Children's Hospital.

At each visit, the baby's development, motor and mental skills will be reviewed. We pay special attention to your child's growth, feeding, nutrition, behavior and hearing. If a developmental delay is found, we refer the baby to a program, like Birth to Three, that will work with the family and help the baby develop.

Our clinic team is made up of:

  • A physician - Laurel Bear, MD.
  • A pediatric nurse coordinator - Ann Chin, RN, BSN.
  • Occupational and physical therapists.
  • Speech therapists.
  • Audiologists (hearing specialists).
  • Nutritionists.

To make an appointment, call the Child Development Center at (414) 266-2742.
