Search Tips

We suggest you:

• Search using words or phrases. Avoid searching with professional medical terms. The teaching sheets are written primarily for patients and families – not clinicians. For example, search for tonsils not T&A; cold not rhinitis or URI
• Try to search a couple different ways:
  • Item number.
  • Text.
  • Category.
• Try to spell the word correctly. If you don't know how to spell a word, try to use wild cards:
  • Use a question mark (?) as a single-character wild card.  For example, searching for appl? will find "apply" or "apple."
  • Use an asterisk (*) as a multiple character wild card. For example searching for appl* will return "apply," "apple," "applied," "applies," and "application."
• Reserve the use of OR or AND for logical search instructions. Search results for food eaten OR children eat will list any pages that use either "food eaten" OR "children eat." For AND, both the words food and toys are each used in many items. But if you search for food AND toys, the list will be fairly small because not many files use both "food" AND "toys."

You don't need to:

• Include common words (a, an, it, the, that, to, etc.) as part of a search. These common words are ignored. A search for "the needle" will get the same results as a search for "needle."
• Use quotation marks around phrases. Searching for "food eaten" and food eaten will return the same list of results.
