Executive Vice President
Robert Kliegman, MD, was named executive vice president of Children's Research Institute in 2004. Kliegman also serves as pediatrician-in-chief and Pamela and Leslie Muma Chair in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Kliegman was awarded his medical degree from the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center in 1974. He trained as a pediatric intern and resident (1974-1976) at The Babies Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. After completing a clinical neonatology and a metabolic research fellowship in 1979 at Case Western Reserve University, he became an assistant professor of Pediatrics at the same institution. In 1985 he was promoted to associate professor, and in 1986 he became vice chair of the Department of Pediatrics. In 1991 he was promoted to full professor. While at Case Western Reserve, Kliegman served as the director of the Pediatric House Staff Training Program and the associate director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Kliegman accepted the position of Pediatric Department Chair at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1993 and also was appointed Pediatrician-in Chief at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. In 2000, Kliegman was named the Pamela and Leslie Muma Chair of Pediatrics, and in 2004 was appointed the Executive Vice President of Children's Research Institute. Kliegman's research interests include neonatology, perinatal glucose insulin relationships, neonatal nutrition, perinatal public health and perinatal ethics.
Kliegman is the co-editor of Nelson's Textbook of Pediatrics, Nelson's Essentials of Pediatrics and Practical Strategies in Pediatric Diagnosis and Therapy.
