Overview The Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin provides treatment for infants, children, teens and young adults with blood disorders including cancer, non-malignant blood diseases, immunodeficiency states and bleeding disorders. We also are committed to expanding research and teaching efforts to enhance the national recognition and prominence of the program. The program's focus is the following:
Hematology
- Bleeding disorders.
- Clotting disorders.
- Sickle cell disease.
- Anemia/neutropenia.
- Thrombocytopenia.
Oncology
- Acute and chronic leukemia.
- Brain tumors.
- Bone tumors.
- Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
- Soft tissue sarcomas.
- Langerhans cell histiocytosis.
- Long-term follow-up.
- Solid tumors.
- Any pediatric tumors.
Blood & Marrow Transplantation
- Matched sibling donor transplants.
- Unrelated donor transplants using donors who are matched or partially matched.
- Mismatched family member donor transplants including parent to child transplants.
- Treatment of severe aplastic anemia.
- Prevention and treatment of post transplant Epstein-Barr infections.
- Treatment of immune deficiencies.
- Cord blood transplants to related and unrelated.
Children and their families from throughout the world come to our hospital to see our nationally- and internationally-recognized physicians and for the specialized care provided in the Hematology/Oncology/Transplant Unit at Children's Hospital. Children's Hospital is the only hospital in Wisconsin whose staff, equipment and facilities are dedicated solely to the care of children.

- The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program at Children's Hospital serves as a national resource for pediatric bone marrow transplantation. We have one of the largest and most experienced pediatric BMT programs in the U.S. We also are one of the largest pediatric transplant programs in the country utilizing unrelated individuals or mismatched family members as donors.
- The center offers a more complete range of quality programs for specialized patient populations than almost any other pediatric hematology/oncology service in the U.S.
Hematology/Oncology/BMT Team The team is comprised of board-certified or board-eligible pediatric hematology/oncology/blood and marrow transplant specialists, pediatric nurse practitioners, pediatric psychologists and a pediatric neuropsychologist.
