Overview
Members of the Pediatric Anesthesiology department provide complete anesthetic, amnesiatic and pain management care for children ranging in age from the premature infant through the young adult. All CSG anesthesiologists have advanced training in pediatrics and anesthesiology, and many have additional training in areas including critical care, ambulatory (outpatient) surgery and pain management. The department has received national and international recognition through their advanced clinical care, clinical research and basic science research activities.
Specialty Highlights
- Pediatric Anesthesiology is recognized as a premier program for anesthesia care for complex neonatal cardiac care and advances in hemodynamic monitoring in neonates.
- In conjunction with the Clinical Engineering Department, George Hoffman, MD, and Frederick Robertson, MD, have become a national resource for biomedical testing and evaluation, particularly pulse oximeters, anesthesia machines and gas analyzers.
- The inpatient pain service and the multidisciplinary pain program headed by Steven Weisman, MD, and Lynn Rusy, MD, continue to enjoy national and international recognition for treatment outcomes and organizational care.
- Pediatric Anesthesiology had 13 presentations at the 2003 American Society of Anesthesiologists meeting.
- Franklin Ruiz, MD, continues international anesthesia care with special expertise in airway issues.
- Richard Berens, MD, developed a code database that has been used as a template for a national database supported by NACHRI.
Research
Anesthesiology Team The team is comprised of board-certified anesthesiologists who offer services that focus on providing complete anesthetic care for children, including pre-anesthetic evaluation and treatment, medical management of patients during anesthetic procedures and post-anesthetic evaluation and treatment.
