The Language Services Program provides face-to-face and telephone interpreters for patients and families with limited English proficiency or who are hearing or speech impaired. Interpreters are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at no cost to the patient or family.
Studies have shown that when a patient's friends or family members interpret, they often leave out important details or do not know how to interpret medical terms. Friends and family members may also feel uncomfortable interpreting sensitive information about the patient's health.
Professional medical interpreters have special training and know how to handle sensitive situations. When you are talking about your child's health, it is best to use an interpreter who has been approved by Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
Please ask for an interpreter if you feel it will help you understand your child's care. Call Language Services at (414) 266-3336 or ask your child's care provider for help.
