To make an appointment call LuAnn Weik, MS, CGC, program coordinator and senior genetic associate, at (414) 266-2031.

Velocardiofacial syndrome (VCFS) is a multi-system disorder caused by a deletion of the q11.2 position of chromosome 22. It is currently associated with 186 physical, medical and neurodevelopmental findings that include:

  • Heart defects
  • Palate abnormalities
  • Subtle facial dysmorphology
  • Speech/language delays and disorders
  • Learning disabilities
  • ADHD
  • Poor social skills
  • Small stature
  • Orthopedic issues
  • Fine and gross motor difficulties

Because of the wide spectrum and variable degree of expression of the findings, VCFS is significantly under diagnosed and therefore under treated.

Children's Hospital of Wisconsin offers a multidisciplinary clinic designed to address the various medical, educational, and psychosocial needs of the children and their families with this syndrome. The team provides coordinated care and individualized case management by experienced professionals. They include:

  • Genetics
  • Speech/Language Pathology
  • Otolaryngology
  • Audiology
  • Psychology
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Gastroenterology
  • Other specialists as needed (cardiology, orthopedics, endocrinology, plastic surgery, dental, etc.)

Location:

  • Clinic is held at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Clinics  Building.
  • Clinic visits range from 3-5 hours depending on the number of specialists that need to be seen.
  • Insurance pre-authorizations and referrals may be necessary. Each specialist bills separately.
