Overview of Wal-Mart/Sam's Club Feeding, Swallowing and Nutrition Center
Families come to the center from throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan as well as from other parts of the United States and from around the world. The team works with your child's primary care doctor and other medical specialists to offer the best ongoing patient care. The Feeding, Swallowing and Nutrition Center offers outpatient and inpatient programs.
Family-centered care At Children's Hospital of Wisconsin we provide family-centered care because we know that a child's health affects the whole family. We create a partnership with families talking openly and often about their child's care and their personal beliefs. Our goal is to support families by building on their strengths.
An infant or child's ability to feed is affected by many things, which may include:
- Mouth and throat function.
- Medical problems.
- Age or developmental level of the child.
- Nerve and muscle control.
- Positive feeding experiences.
Problems with any of these things may cause a feeding and/or swallowing problem.
The center strives to provide care in an environment that recognizes diversity, confidentiality and trust. We believe that the entire family should be involved in treatment planning and education.
Goals of the center are to:
- Provide a coordinated service that offers quality care to children with feeding and swallowing disorders and their families.
- Establish feeding patterns with the best nutrition that can be maintained by the family in the home and other places.
