MILWAUKEE (11/12/2008) - The National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions has selected Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to participate in a task force on best practices of hospital-based clinical pediatric weight management programs. Children's Hospital is one of 16 hospitals that will examine and refine successful components of the weight management programs at their hospitals. The task force, known as the NACHRI FOCUS Group on Obesity, is supported through an exploratory grant provided by the Mattel Children's Foundation.
"Children's Hospital's nationally renowned NEW (Nutrition, Exercise and Weight management) KidsTM Program continues to serve as a national model for managing the medical and psychosocial issues associated with pediatric obesity," said Jon Vice, president and CEO of Children's Hospital and Health System. "We look forward to sharing our success with other pediatric centers interested in establishing their own pediatric weight management programs."
The task force will hold its first meeting this month at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Ark., and will continue its work through 2009. Final findings will be published in January 2010.
