MILWAUKEE (8/13/2007) - Patricia D. Wilson, PhD, of Milwaukee, Wis., has been appointed associate director of Children's Research Institute. In this position, Dr. Wilson will have a major role in strategic planning and will add her expertise in intellectual property development and academic-industry interactions. Dr. Wilson also will serve as the director of the Childhood Kidney Disease Research Program, which will complement the ongoing studies in the newly designated Pediatric Nephrology Center of Research Excellence awarded to Ellis Avner, MD, director of Children's Research Institute.
Dr. Wilson, also appointed as professor of Pediatrics and Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, joins the institute from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York where she served as the Irene and Dr. Arthur Fishberg Professor of Medicine (Nephrology) and director of the Renal Development and Genetic Disease Research Program. Dr. Wilson is internationally recognized investigator in the field of renal developmental biology. In particular, her work has focused on the molecular and cell biology of kidney development and polycystic kidney diseases (PKD). She is the author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, reviews and chapters in the field of renal developmental biology and PKD, has an extensive record of previous and current extramural research support from the National Institutes of Health and foundations, and is an elected member of major editorial and scientific advisory boards.
