MILWAUKEE (6/5/2007) - The Young Adult Oncology Group at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has received a community program grant from the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) to support their educational conference on Saturday June 23, 2007, "Young adult journey: empowerment through knowledge and support." Children's Hospital is one of 30 community, nonprofit organizations across the country to receive a grant to help young adults and their families with the physical, emotional and practical challenges of cancer.
The conference is sponsored by Children's Hospital's Young Adult Oncology Group. The conference will feature Dan Jansen, former Olympic gold medalist, as the keynote speaker, who will talk about how cancer has had an impact on his life. In addition, cancer survivorship experts will provide information to adolescent and young adult patients and their families.
"We are honored to be awarded with this grant that helps support people living with cancer," said Kristin Bingen, PhD, pediatric psychologist, Children's Hospital. "There are many issues surrounding survivorship. The conference is based on educating and providing resources for survivors."
"We are pleased to support Children's Hospital in its efforts to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors and their loved ones," said Andy Miller, associate director of public health at the LAF. "Together, we are helping people with cancer live strong."
